Guidelines for Research on Gametes and Non-viable Embryos

Date of publication: July 2008

Completed in June 2005, these guidelines are based on the National Health and Medical Research Council document, Ethical Guidelines on the Use of Assisted Reproductive Technology in Clinical Practice and Research, 2004.

Guidelines for Research on Gametes and Non-viable Embryos (PDF, 167 KB)

Any research involving gametes or non-viable embryos must be approved by ECART. Research involving any embryos other than non-viable embryos cannot proceed at present as ECART does not currently have guidelines for considering applications for such research.

For useful advice on preparing research information sheets and consent forms, refer to the Guidelines for Completion of the National Application Form for Ethical Approval of a Research Project. (www.ethicscommittees.health.govt.nz)
